Programme Design

Community Focus International, recognize that access to appropriate assistive technology is fundamental to inclusion, dignity, and improved quality of life. Our Assistive Technology Devices programme is designed to ensure that children, youth, and adults with disabilities and those with functional limitations can live more independently and participate meaningfully in their communities across Northern Uganda.

LOCAL FABRICATION

Customized Mobility Devices

Tricycles, CP chairs, and crutches, built locally following a professional needs assessment and tailored to each user’s condition and environment.

Individual customization for proper posture and support
Locally sourced materials suited to local terrain
Repairable in community, with no dependency on outside supply chains

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Device Provision & Distribution

Working with partners such as Sufficiency of Scriptures Ministries, CFI receives and distributes adult wheelchairs, crutches, walking frames, and walking trolleys.

Allocated by assessed need for appropriate matching
Provided completely free of charge
Paired with user training and follow up support

VISION SUPPORT

Eyeglasses Provision

With support from Global Vision 2020, CFI distributes reading glasses to individuals struggling with near vision, at no cost to the recipient.

Improved reading ability among adults and older persons
Enhanced learning and productivity in underserved areas
High impact in refugee settlements like Kiryandongo and Adjumani

A Region Wide, Inclusive Approach

The Assistive Technology Devices programme is implemented across Northern Uganda, reaching both host communities and refugee populations. By integrating local production, strategic partnerships, and inclusive service delivery, CFI is addressing a critical gap in access to assistive technology.

Ultimately, this programme goes beyond devices, it is about restoring independence, enabling participation, and advancing inclusion for those who need it most.

COMMUNITY BASED REHABILITATION

Built from what the community already has

Every mobility device starts with a needs assessment, not a catalogue. CFI’s technicians design for the person’s physical condition, their home environment, and the terrain they move through daily, using materials sourced within the community itself.

Because the devices are built locally, they can also be repaired locally. A cracked frame or worn wheel doesn’t mean months of waiting on an external supply chain; it means a visit to the same workshop that built it. That repairability is what keeps a device in use for years, not months, and it’s what turns a donation into genuine independence.
