The Birth of Vocational Training at the CFI Skilling Center

The newly launched CFI Skilling Center in Lira City stands as a vibrant testament to hope and opportunity, a powerful continuation of the successful SAIC Project in partnership with Plan International Uganda. This vital hub is already making significant strides in equipping Lira’s most vulnerable youth with crucial, marketable vocational skills, igniting their potential and charting new courses for independence. We believe in the inherent capacity of every young person to thrive, and through dedicated hands-on instruction, we are transforming lives and weaving a stronger, more inclusive social fabric for our community.

Currently, the center proudly offers intensive training in two high demand trades that promise immediate pathways to self-employment and sustainable livelihoods, these are tailoring and welding. These foundational skills are not just about learning a craft, they are about building confidence, fostering resilience, and providing tangible tools for independence. For teenage mothers, school dropouts, youth seeking redirection from anti-social activities, and refugees, these programs are nothing short of life-changing, restoring their dignity and actively fostering genuine inclusion within the heart of Lira City. For youth who feel a natural pull towards the culinary arts, CFI is facilitating free, professional training by strategically linking them to an external catering school. This thoughtful approach ensures that passion for catering can be cultivated and honed without restriction, sidestepping the current spatial limitations of our center. Our beloved facility, brimming with potential, is presently too small to host the full spectrum of trades we envision and to accommodate a larger number of eager learners. Furthermore, our available equipment is few, limiting both the quantity of youth we can empower and the diversity of skills we can impart. These constraints, while real, only serve to sharpen our resolve to find solutions and magnify our impact.
